University of Southern Indiana - USI Overview

  About Greek Life at USI

Situated in Evansville in southwestern Indiana, USI is a mid-size regional university with a Greek system that reflects the close-knit feel of the campus itself. It's not a massive Greek scene like you'd find at a Big Ten flagship, but there's a real community here built around a handful of well-established chapters.

On the fraternity side, IFC oversees a solid lineup that includes Alpha Sigma Phi, Kappa Alpha Order, Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Delta Theta, Sigma Pi, Sigma Tau Gamma, and Tau Kappa Epsilon. Panhellenic covers the sorority side with Alpha Sigma Alpha, Alpha Sigma Tau, Delta Zeta, Gamma Phi Beta, and Sigma Sigma Sigma. USI doesn't currently have an NPHC or MGC council with active chapters, so the Greek structure here runs primarily through those two councils.

Recruitment at a school this size tends to be a lot more personal than what you'd see at a big state school. You're not walking through a massive row of mansions during formal rush — it's a smaller process where you actually get to know people pretty quickly. That can make the whole experience feel a lot less overwhelming.

Greek life plays a role in USI's social scene, though it's not the only game in town. The university has grown steadily over the years and has a student body with a lot of commuters and regional students, which shapes campus culture generally. Greeks here tend to be visible on campus through philanthropy events, involvement in student government, and organizing social events, rather than dominating the entire social calendar the way Greek life might at a larger residential school.

On the housing front, USI doesn't have a traditional Greek Row with chapter-owned houses. Most chapters operate through on-campus facilities or chapter rooms, which again contributes to that more integrated, less isolated feel compared to schools where Greek housing is totally separate from the rest of campus life.
