Elmhurst College - EC Overview

  About Greek Life at EC

Elmhurst College is a small liberal arts school just outside Chicago in the western suburbs, and its Greek system reflects that intimate, close-knit campus environment. There are a handful of fraternities under IFC and sororities under Panhellenic, giving the community a more personal feel than you'd find at a large state university. The organizations here include Alpha Sigma Phi, Alpha Tau Omega, and Lambda Chi Alpha on the fraternity side, and Alpha Phi, Phi Mu, Sigma Kappa, and Kappa Kappa Gamma representing Panhellenic.

Rush and recruitment at a school this size tend to be pretty accessible. You're not dealing with massive intake classes or cutthroat competition the way you might at a Big Ten school. Panhellenic formal recruitment typically runs in the fall and follows a structured round system, while IFC recruitment is generally more informal and spread out across the semester. Because the campus is smaller, you'll likely already know people in these chapters before you ever formally rush.

Greek life is one part of the social scene at EC, but it's not the only thing going on. The school's proximity to Chicago means a lot of students spend weekends heading into the city, which naturally pulls some social energy off campus. That said, chapters here are active with philanthropy events and on-campus programming throughout the year, which keeps things moving even at a school this size.

As for housing, Elmhurst doesn't have the traditional Greek Row setup with chapter houses lining a street. Chapters are more integrated into campus life without dedicated house facilities, which shapes how the social side of membership works. Events tend to happen in campus spaces or off-campus venues rather than out of a fraternity or sorority house.

Overall, this is a smaller Greek community where members tend to know each other well across chapters, and the national affiliations of the organizations here connect members to broader alumni networks that extend well beyond the Elmhurst campus.
