Not being in a sorority at smu

by: Help

What do most smu girls do after getting dropped from recruitment? Is it hard to have a fulfilling social life here if you aren’t in a sorority but wanted to be? Does the sadness of not being one and feeling left out go away? Do most girls transfer or get involved in other organizations? Please share any useful advice!

If your hung up on Greek hierarchy, unless you're in a top 3 sorority (about 150 girls each year), SMU can be rough. The the top 3 or 4 fraternities (who throw a lot of parties) will only mix with the top 3 houses - I don't know how any of the other girls (no sorority and not top 3) have a chance to really socialize with these guys who really only want to date top 3 sorority girls. There are exceptions to the rule - but in general the guys in the top houses are super rude to girls who they don't believe level up to them. Totally ridiculous because most of these guys are mid at best - but it is what it is.

Wow I don’t know all this! I thought as long as you’re in a sorority your social life is good but I guess it depends on which house. I thought girls can go to any party as long as they know where to go? Also I thought everyone in Greek life socializes with each other and knows each other. How come they only mix with the top three? What about the other frats? Do they just not throw as many parties as the top ones? I care mostly about having a good group of girlfriends. Do most girls want top houses bc of the parties?

Why? Can’t you still enjoy smu and have fun without being in a sorority?

Forget tiers! Top tier guys can be real dbs too . Forget the labels.
Many exceptional people are not in the ‘top’ organizations frat or strat or in Greek Life at all. Focus on what you want and what makes you happy. I’m in a ‘top ‘ house and it has its advantages and as many disadvantages. Focus on a group you like bc you can enjoy it long after college as an alum.

It’s hard, but it’s not impossible. It’s what you make of it, like anything else. There are sports there are clubs. SMU is not unlike any other Greek centered university Wake Forest, University of Miami, Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, are all very Greek centered schools. You can add Indiana in there as well and yes, girls transfer if they don’t get into the house that they want and yes, this happens at Alabama.

Most girls will get a bid at SMU the girls who aren’t in a sorority have either done something horribly wrong and everyone knows about it or they don’t wanna be in the house that gave them a bid.
