Formal recruitment for Panhellenic sororities is a structured, multi-day process that runs in the fall. IFC fraternity rush tends to be a bit more informal and spread out, though many chapters hold events throughout the semester. If you're thinking about rushing, expect it to be a time commitment — especially on the sorority side.

At a school where football is basically a religion, Greek life and game days are closely connected. Vol football Saturdays are a huge part of the social calendar, and Greek organizations are very visible in tailgating culture around Neyland Stadium. Beyond football, chapters across all councils put a serious emphasis on philanthropy — fundraising events and service initiatives are a consistent part of chapter life throughout the academic year.

Greek life here is a meaningful part of the overall social scene, though the campus is large enough that it's far from the only option. The system has a lot of active chapters — fraternities ranging from Alpha Tau Omega and Sigma Chi to FarmHouse and Alpha Gamma Rho, and sororities including Chi Omega, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Zeta Tau Alpha, and others — giving the community real depth across different types of organizations.
