Iota Gamma Upsilon - ΙΓΥ Sorority at University of Massachusetts Amherst - UMA 4.5 Go Local!! IGU has been on campus for almost 56 years and is one of the oldest local sororities in the country and not to mention, has outlasted many of the national sororities that were on campus back in 1962 when IGU was founded. Being a local sorority means that the house is run by the sisters with alumnae oversight. This allows the sisters to gain leadership skills and independence, as there is no National Organization breathing down their neck. This is an amazing sisterhood and group of alumnae. IGU may not have a million dollar mansion for a house, but the sisters make it what it is and are proud to call it their home. IGU represents a true sisterhood - personally knowing and caring about each sister. This is a group of real women, who have earned the right to call themselves a sister for life.

Go Local!! So many real-world life skills to be learned that you wouldn't experience in a National. The sisters in this house REALLY make the sisterhood what it is. Nothing is handed to them - they are real women who go far in life.

Why not top tier? Because their Mommies and Daddies aren't CEOs? Because they don't have Daddy's Amex Black Card and their sweet sixteen gift wasn't a luxury vehicle?

Iota Gamma Upsilon - ΙΓΥ Sorority at University of Massachusetts Amherst - UMA 3.0 I went through recruitment last semester and already had an idea of igu just based on all the bad things people would tell me. Being bias i dropped them and ended up in a different sorority. Then I knew a couple girls who joined and I been invited to their parties and let me just say they are some kick ass girls. More like a fraternity even which i am jealous of because I am here living under the big brother of my sorority watching my every move and my friends in igu are so laid back and know how to fcking throw down. Wish i wasn't bias during recruitment and Im actually very envious of the girls in this sorority. All I have to say is stop basing sororities on looks and popularity.. everyones keeps throwing igu at the bottom when really they deserve to be at the top.
