is it easy to make friends as a transfer?

by: Transfer

Potentially transferring to UF next year and i was wondering if it's hard to make friends a as a transfer in sororities? Seems like it might be kinda hard without a PC.

Do most sororities let you in automatically or do they have to vote you in? I'd be transferring from a private northern school where the Greek system is much smaller.

Also, should I ask about living in the house or is it weird to live in the house when you don't know anyone?

im not a transfer student but im from the north and there's a lot of students from NY and MD at UF and don't worry about being older because a lot of sophomores and even juniors get bids! just be yourself! also you can ask about living in house because it's different at every house on who gets to live in it like i know kappas are all upperclassmen... hope i could help and best of luck!

Most chapters vote on affiliation of transfers. I haven't heard of anyone being denied, but I don't know the whole row/school.
A lot of smaller (by bed-space) chapters only have upperclassmen in-house, but don't let that deter you if you want to live in-house!
Other things to try, affiliated or not: clubs, honors frats for your major/dept, volunteering locally, join a Meetup. There's really a lot that can get you out and meeting people beyond row!

I rushed as a junior transfer. I was so nervous that no chapters would take me because I was already a junior. However it doesn't matter. I heard rumors that each sorority will only take like MAYBE 1 transfer and it's completely false. I'm in a top tier sorority here, and we have 6 juniors in my pledge class alone (pc15) so don't be worried!!
Honestly though however, it is MUCH harder to make friends. Most of my pledge class are freshman, so it's hard to chill with girls that are much younger than you. Idk what people say, it's harder to make friends when you're older.
