I heard they are going to pair with two of the smaller frats.

What does that even mean? Like which specific ones. That's the most non-descript thing I have ever heard

Really dropped their standards, what a huge downgrade from last year.

There's a lot more to homecoming than just the social reputation of the fraternity you're paired with. Probably raised standards in every other aspect

agreed - sometimes pairings don't exactly work out so that the pair is "at your level" as far as this tier system goes. In fact, most other schools don't even operate like our broken system does at UF in terms of gameday and HC pairings... Homecoming can be a good time regardless of who you're paired with.

So this might be a really dumb question...what if you're dating a guy or hanging out with a guy from a fraternity that isn't paired with your sorority? Not just for homecoming but other events too. Can you just go to their events with them or would you just have to do your own thing?

For the actual events it will just be the people that are paired together

Is it just homecoming events that are strict like that or are there other events that sororities and fraternities are paired for that I wouldn't be able to go to?

Any time your boyfriends fraternity is paired with a specific sorority that isn't yours, it's rude to go. My boyfriend's had a paired social with Pi Phi - it would be rude for me to just show up to their event. Likewise, when my sorority had homecoming with a different fraternity, he couldn't come to any of our events. Grab-a-dates, formals, semi formals, and woodsers are the official events where you can invite your boyfriend :) Trust me - it's awkward to go to a paired event when you're not in the paired sorority.

Thank you that makes sense, I can respect that!
