fall rush
by: curioHow exactly does fall rush for sororities go? How do cuts happen and how do the sororities vote on you?

You register, are sorted into groups and assigned panhel counsellors (Pi Chi's) who have disaffiliated with their houses to help run recruitment. You'll go to every house as that large group in a very strictly scheduled and monitored process, round 1. A girl will meet you at the door and direct you as you leave, it's less than 15 minutes. Then you'll "preference" which 4 houses you're the least interested in returning to. The next day each of you will get a unique schedule listing the houses that have invited you back, and what time to go to their 20 minute 2nd round. You'll go to all of these- skip any and you are released from the process completely- and then "preference" down to 7 houses. Then repeat this from 7 down to 3.
At any point, each house may drop you. You may only have 5 houses on your schedule in the second round (where the max is 11). You'd go to all 5 and "preference" by filling them all in your 7 possible parties for the next day.
Anyone you rank as "want to return to less" may still invite you back. They're only "dropped" from your schedule if all the others you listed above them invited you back and you hit the max number of parties for the round. (Girls will conflate "dropping a house" with ranking them below your preferred next batch- no. You may rank them the worst every round but if you're not attending the max amount of parties, you're accepting whatever invite you get)
Rounds are progressively longer, more formal, more serious, and fewer in #

its hell on heels... literally
-buy a cheap phone fan on amazon (you can thank me later)
-bring powder especially for round one, you'll sweat
-change of shoes for in between houses, sometimes you'll have to jog to further houses
-snacks are important
-literally be yourself and don't try to fit a mold for any house

The final round, called preferentials or prefs (yes this is confusing given the name of the ranking process) is 3 long serious possible parties. Think crying and lots of candles. A ton of houses have sisters wearing white floor length gowns. Following this you will put your remaining chapters in order 123 and whichever highest on your list offers you membership will be written on your bid card the next day. You may leave any of those three spots blank if you wouldn't be willing to join a chapter you visited. Once you've signed that final rank (but before you know the outcome) you can't join a different chapter for a calendar year.
A number of girls will be cut by all houses before bid day. A number will be cut before prefs. Some may be cut after one round. Your Pi Chi's would call you before you were supposed to meet for your schedules to break that news. You can choose withdraw at any time.
Nobody is going to tell you how cuts happen, they are not allowed to. Each house is different but there is some form of feedback from your conversation. Some vote, some have committees that vote. All balance value on different things including GPA, personality, appearance, age, and recommendations. Nobody knows where else you are still rushing. All ask their members for information on PNMs (potential new members, you) they like, dislike, or know anything about beforehand. All have seen whatever online presence you have.
Alright?
