What's the best way to get past round 1? What things hold the most weight and give sororities good first impressions? Also do letters of rec help at all?

They want pretty, history of activities/ leadership, friendly/outgoing

But you can be all of those and get overlooked. This is where recs, social media, connections presence, early registration come in to get you noticed . Connections can help and hinder you.
