Can someone explain COB and snap bids?

by: Cob

So I got a call a couple hours ago that I got dropped from all houses and I was wondering what the chances were that COB and snap bids were happening?

Lots of girls got that call. As long as you weren’t blacklisted, snap bids are offered by houses who do not make quota to girls who were released completely or dropped out-- so for example if you preffed KD and DG and didn't list DG but weren't high enough on KD's list you are not eligible for a snap bid because you didn't list all of your houses....

COB is continuous open bidding and can happen any time after bid-day by houses who are not at their mandatory total

Also 1780 rushed. Most sororities can only take 80 girls.

I don't think that's true at all about not being eligible for a snap for not listing all your houses, according to NPC rules. You aren't eligible if you turn down a bid, and not putting a house on your card is not turning down a bid. You have to actually be offered a bid to turn it down. Pnm's have the right to not list a house they would not accept a bid to and they aren't punished for it, they just take their chances of not getting a bid.

So much wrong with this comment. The above comment is correct, you can absolutely qualify for a snap if you don't rank both houses. Also Total is not mandatory, it's a maximum limit. You can't mandate that a chapter has to fill their spots, that's against NPC. You can't make a chapter offer bids any more than you can make someone accept a bid.

Also chapters aren't limited to 80 girls. Quota isn't set until after pref when everyone has signed her card. We won't know what quota is until then. And some will take over quota due to quota additions.

All sororities take quota and many take more than quota because of the rule that pnm's are guaranteed a bid if they rank both pref houses.

Quota is never set until after pref. The formula for quota = number of pnm's signing cards after pref ÷ number of sororities.

Sorry you didn't get what you wanted but recruitment is not a sign up sheet.

2024 fall sororities gave out snap bids on bid day due to quota, if a sorority does not have a full pledge class at quota (set by UF), they can call back women who were released from recruitment and offer them a bid. Last fall due to record numbers hundreds were released after round 3 and did not go on to pref, released girls showed up unannounced, pichis confusing lines .
Adpi ( most requested house) gave out 60 bids with a requirement of 80, they did called backs morning of bid day.
You don't want to rush hoping for a snap bid. If you have been dropped, only given a bid because a house didn't meet quota that’s not the best way to join a sorority!

It wasn't the actual number of pnm's last year, it was the RFM carry numbers not calculated properly. Let's hope lessons learned, data and formulas updated, more attention paid this year and corrections made going forward.

ADPI did not give out snap bids last fall. They never have. This is a lie. The are the most requested house by PNM/s never have trouble making quota.
