Transferring sororities

by: curious

Is transferring from a chapter at another school into a sorority here from out of state looked down upon considering how competitive Florida rush is? And even if your chapter was good where you transferred from? Not going to say my sorority but I believe it is considered top 3 here if that would have any effect

in my chapter, the transfer usually will have dinner or coffee with exec to see if she’s a good fit. then we have a chapter vote, and since most of us don’t know the transfer(s) we just vote yes. fwiw, we usually accept all transfers lol and i’ve only heard of transfers getting rejected if they’re crazy and/or were in bad standing w their old chapter.

socially, most transfers never really mesh that well unless they transferred early or have friends already in house. sorority transfers ik tend to have a smaller tight knit friend group but aren’t as well known by the rest of the house. obviously every girl’s experience and house is different tho.

depending on what school ur coming from and what sorority you’re in, some girls might judge you for transferring in from a less competitive school. i have heard that in “top sororities” girls will rush at easier schools and go a certain chapter with the intention of transferring into that chapter at UF. they consider it a guarantee that way which is so weird to me… especially considering how different chapters are by school. as long as u don’t have crazy eyes abt being an XYZ at UF, you should be good lol.

thank you! I go to a big southern school and our rush was competitive just not quite as UF, and my chapter is considered good there. As I’m starting to realize the school I chose is not the best fit for me I’m looking into others some that have my sorority and some that don’t but I love my sorority and joined with the intention of staying the whole 4 years and would like continue to be in a sorority at wherever I choose to transfer. I just wasn’t sure if anyone would think I was transferring just to “tier jump” which I also think is weird, as that is not at all my intention, also wanted to see if people maybe did not like transfers, since being in a sorority probably wouldn’t be as enjoyable if your sisters thought you “cheated” your way in! again thanks for all the info!
