Srat Fall Rush 2020
by: ronaI think fall rush SHOULD continue, even if its virtual. Pushing rush to spring is not the smartest choice. Honestly, with how things are looking, I wouldn’t be surprised if the spring rush would have to be virtual too (I wish it wouldn’t, but seriously at this point we need to expect the worst). If we end up pushing rush to spring and its just virtual then whats the point? We will have lost a whole extra semester. If we have rush in the fall, we’ll at least have an opportunity to connect - PNMs with current sorority women - and it’ll make the ease into college life so much easier for PNMs. Come on, they’re missing out on so much already. Plus, what about the incoming junior transfers, or just juniors that wanna rush in general? They’d lose a whole extra semester - one that is VITAL. And im not saying to ignore social distancing, but people are going to be returning back to gainesville either way. If rush continues, we can at least meet some PNMs in a safe way, not associated with the sorority but as friends. Seriously, I think continuing with virtual fall rush is the best way. Current sorority women, don’t be dissuaded. TRY your hardest to make the best out of a sucky situation. PNMs, trust me youre gonna wanna rush!!!! Try to make this semester as normal as possible! WE CAN DO THIS.

I honestly didn’t think about the transfer junior situation but couldn’t UF maybe only do rush for those juniors? I’m honestly concerned with how much houses and pnms alike are going to focus on internet clout rather than genuine connection, and I’m afraid that that’ll become the standard for all houses, especially for spring rush since the mutual selection process isn’t really used then (I’m assuming more houses will spring rush this year due to lower fall rush registration numbers, and that more girls will also likely spring rush this year in hopes that things will be normal by then.). Online rush doesn’t have enough regulation and gives houses free reign to dirty rush.
Plus, what happens if spring is back to normal and you find out you don’t actually like the girls in your chapter? You can’t do bump groups on Zoom, round one is videos, and you’re normally matched with a girl you’ve already met for prefs. You can’t accurately judge a chapter of 200 girls by only talking to 2 of them.
Finally, wouldn’t rushing in the fall just to not have any events make new members feel like they’re getting used for their money?
They’re hoping to release a vaccine soon, and having one could be a requirement for rushing in the spring if they pushed formal recruitment to then. Formal recruitment is also a huge way for girls to bond, especially girls that rushed last year. They should just postpone it.

thats great, hopefully that happens. But if the school says they need to be fully online then I dont want pan to get discouraged and push to spring because theres a chance spring will be online too so then we’ll have wasted a whole semester. Plus, im sure dues will be lower this semester if the amount of things we’re able to do is super low...... So we wouldn’t be paying such high dues for nothing. Idk I truly think fall rush 2020 needs to happen! Both for frats and srats!
