Sororities have a different quota per grade level, so you're not competing with anybody. Fraternities just don't really care as long as you're cool.

So it’s harder to bid as a sophomore cause the quota is probably smaller than the freshman quota right?

No, that's not how it works. Quota is not set until the end and is based on the number of pnm's who go to pref and sign their cards. There are no predetermined numbers. The upperclassmen quota is smaller simply because the number of upperclassmen rushing is smaller. That doesn't make it harder to get a bid. If you attend pref and rank both your houses, or only the one if that's what you have, then you are guaranteed a bid. If you have two houses and only rank one (suicide) you are not guaranteed a bid.
HERE'S WHERE IT'S DIFFERENT FOR UPPERCLASSMEN: 1) If you have been here as a student already, then you have made an impression with certain people. If that impression is good and you have made friends in any houses then they will pull for you. 2) Your college GPA is now more important than your HS GPA.
