sororities with spring rush?
by: LateRushee
Hey y'all,
I'm a freshman who regrets not rushing. I didn't rush in fall due to financial reasons but I just got a job and plan to save this semester for upcoming house dues. I just have a couple questions about spring rush for any actives. What houses are doing spring rush this year? Additionally, I've met some great girls from bottom, top, and middle tiers and some girls I connect with less from all over the ranks. I'm looking to meet friends, not go to the best tailgates or have formals with the best houses, if that's my goal does rank magter as much? Lastly, how understanding is your sorority about financial struggles and how do they accommodate for those of us less economically advantaged? I might have to rush without parent approval since my parents are dead set on me not rushing due to money. I'm trying to change their minds but if not, I still plan to rush and just try to save for dues now and put anything leftover on a credit card and so slow payments. It's not ideal but I really don't know if my parents will let me and I already regret not doing fall rush.

Hey! As someone who didn't rush their freshman year I feel you. Bid week, big/little, and homecoming week are all rough when you regret not rushing. When we get back from winter break you'll hear about exactly who is participating in spring rush. This usually happens at the end of January.
Honestly I would wait until formal rush next year for a lot of reasons. You wont be missing much in the spring so this will give you more time to save up for dues next year. There are a lot of activities in the fall that will allow you to bond with your pc and the rest of the chapter that that aren't available in the spring. While a lot of sororities do participate in spring rush, a lot of them don't. This eliminates a lot of amazing girls that you may get along with even more.
Spring rush is a bit like fraternity rush in that you only go to the houses that you choose. While this may seem better I promise it isn't. I ended up in a house that I never would have picked if I wasn't made to go there. You make friends in other sororities during formal recruitment and appreciate every chapter more.
This being said, I haven't met a single girl who participated in spring rush and got a bid that wasn't happy!
Hope this helped :)

Thank you for the information and offering a dual-sided answer (is that a word? who knows)! I totally can see the benefit to doing fall rush but the main reason I want to rush spring is because I've met great girls in two houses I'm interested in that changed my mind about sororities. I'm a super social person who just wants a community to thrive in. One reason I am so wary of fall rush is because my roommate had such a bad experience with it and ended up drained and fried. I think I will likely do spring rush if those houses that the girls are in are open for spring rush but I'm not committed fully since fall rush would give me more time to save money. Do spring rushees get to be littles after summer break or are they bigs?
