suiciding

by: ?

If I only have 2 houses left after prefs and I know I wouldn't want to be in the other house. Would suiciding decrease my chance of getting the bid I want?

Do not sucicide. Literally every single pi chi will tell you that

I totally disagree with this advice. Having visited all the houses, if I had two choices and one was not the place for me, I would not pref it just to get a guaranteed home, either the PNM or the house obviously do not fit.p

That's not how the computer system works. If you have two houses and technically don't get either, the computer puts you in your first choice, but only if you maximize your options

There are many instances of people going to prefs and changing their minds or changing their minds after joining. A more rational and better decision would be not to suicide and give the house a chance then drop before initiation if it really doesn't fit. How do you know that you won't like it after joining? You don't.

Worst case is that you join, meet lots of people during game days, socials etc and then drop after really getting to know the girls.

Truth is that you hurt your chances of getting the 1st house you want by suiciding. Ask your Pi Chi about this...but sometimes houses get to take extra girls through quota additions. This means if you were lower on their list, but they get to take extra girls (this is all figured out thru Pan as a way to place as many girls as possible), they may get to take you as a quota additon...however, if you suicide, you are automatically ruled out as a possible quota addition. Bottom line, suiciding does not improve your chances, it lowers them. Fact.

Could u be a quota addition to a chapter that cut u in an early round? I only had 2 houses for round 3 so if I'm released from rush, could I still be a quota addition or get a snap bid?

You can only be a quota addition for a house you pref at AND if you maximize your options, ie do not suicide.

Google ' RFM' which stands for Release Figures Methodology. It is the software that Panhellenic has selected to run recruitment. It says that going to pref guarantees you a bid but only if you maximize your options. The BEST chance for you to get your first choice is to list ALL your pref houses on your bid card.

I had 4 houses at pref's. I know I did not want either. I really wanted ADPI. I did it and got into ADPI. It was worth it to me.

Good for you but you are only one person and were obviously at the top of their bid list.

What if I only have one house at prefs? Am I guaranteed a bid there?

Please don't consider suiciding yet. When I preffed I had a house that I really didn't want (didn't feel comfortable or wanted there, I think they invited me back based solely on looks), and I considered not listing it. I went into prefs really trying to keep an open mind to see if I could fit in there. I obviously listed them last (and thankfully got my first choice), but by the end I was starting to see how I could fit in. More options are always better, rush week is way too stressful to end up without a house because you suicided.
