q's many wonder for fall recruitment!!

by: Queen B

1- what are the times for preferentials/Bid day? I know these interfere with school days, so how would this work for students with late classes?
2- in all honesty, do sororities use social media like Instagram to determine who they like?
3- How exactly are these girls choosing who they like and narrowing it down? I never got it because many girls will be acting the same ways to try to impress certain sororities
4- are there any MUST AVOID or MUST NOT DOs during recruitment?
4-what is your biggest tip for the girls going into fall recruitment?

1) it's drop add just go to bid day

2) we see what you're like, but we won't be like "oh she only has 30 likes we don't want her"

3) criteria is secret but generally speaking we want people who we can see ourselves being friends with

4) don't talk about boys, partying, politics ... don't be weird, keep it light.

5) biggest tip? if you have long enough breaks, go home and take a shower, I found it a lot easier to be cute and friendly when I wasn't covered in 12 hours worth of sweat.

I don't know if it's very common, but the class I had during bid day last year made an announcement to tell the girls that rushed that they could sign out and leave. It started at 3 and was one of those 3 hour block ones.

1- Typically Prefs do take place in the evening on the first week of school. As a freshman, the likelihood of interfering are minimal. If you have to skip, its life.
2- In my sorority, we used social media mainly to determine the looks of a girl - honestly, looks matter. Often, girls get paired with rushers who are of similar "looks caliber" in addition to similar interests. Its not the make or break, however, just a gage to help houses organize who rushes who.
3- Each house does selections differently. Usually its a vetting process. Sometimes girls give scores right after each round. Sometimes these scores are averaged. Make sure you don't have super generic conversation so that you don't get forgotten.
4- I would not speak at length about anything too personal. I would not speak about partying and frats. I would not speak negatively about the rush process or other houses.
5 - Here are some general tips: 1) GET IN SHAPE. You have a month. It'll make a difference when you look and feel your best. 2) Splurge on your outfits. Again, look and feel your very very best. 3) Go in open minded, try to speak to girls as if they are a friend of a friend whom you're getting to know. That way, you can have real conversations, form a genuine connection, and see correlations between the girls who rush from each house. 4) Do not get hung up with the tier system. If you're a beautiful girl, consider your personality - does it fit in with "top tier" mentality?

1. already answered
2. yes, we do peek. we look to see what kind of overall image you portray on social media. it generally will not make or break you unless you post something inappropriate and/or weird.
3. who we connect with. It's as simple and complicated as that. I know this is hard, but try not to take things too personally. I may LOVE you, but there may be another girl who knows more people, is a better fit, or another reason.
4. my best conversations as a PNM and as a member are those that aren't forced. I feel like I am talking to my best friend's friend whoI never met but know I could be lifelong friends with. yes, it will be hot and you will be tired, but don't complain!
5. be the best version of yourself. buy cute flattering clothes within your budget. nothing too conservative or too revealing. trim your hair beforehand. crest whitestrips. get in shape. sleep well the night before each day. be in a good mood or fake it! smile a lot.
