Maybe it is time to do things different here?

by: Lins

Seeing the news about AOPi shook me. I don't know any of them really, but I know the girls worked hard to recruit, like every other house, and I know they love their chapter and are crushed right now.

This site doesn't make or break a chapter. But these rankings def don't help, and can make it really, really hard for a house to shake a rep as "bottom".

Maybe we can try not listing who is "bottom". Cut the rankings at 5, or 10. Give the houses that struggle more of a chance to show that they are worth looking at, without the cloud of a constant bottom ranking on this site hanging over them

Just an idea, but if enough people do it it could make a difference.

I have to disagree. Supporting each other is a good idea. Also true that most houses are more similar than the ranking on here imply. But aopii was an exception to that. I’m sure they’re great girls but when you consistently get less than 10 girls year after year while everyone else gets 50-70, that’s a clear indication that organization needed to be fixed internally and no amount of support can change that. Even their nationals wanted to restart instead so encouraging pnms to check them out without mentioning all the problems that aren’t getting fixed wouldn’t help anyone.

This makes sense. But, what about the next bottom house? Now that AOPi will no longer be listed at the bottom, it is someone else's turn. How long until that house starts seeing smaller pledge classes because all the pnms get nervous about joining a house that is listed as the worst on campus in rankings on here over and over?

the idea that this site doesn't influence recruiting is crazy. the first thing me and all my friends did when deciding to rush was go to this site and see who was the best and who was the worst. how many girls cross aopi off the list right away based on what they see here? a lot.

its a problem.

Life has winners and losers. Social status and beauty standards existed before Greek rank and they also exist after college. Did u join aopii? No. Ok then why not? Because u didn’t want to. Neither did anyone else, because they clearly were a worse option than every other so sorority. Shame posting on Greek rank won’t change human nature it just makes u look stupid

I didnt join AOPi because they were clearly the worst. But how did I know that? Because of this site. I knew before I even talked with them that I wouldn't join them. That isnt fair, and it was awful and shallow of me, but that is what this site taught me.

Now, maybe without a clear worst who ends up on the bottom of the rankings changes more often. And then every sorority who isnt in the top tier gets to stress about whether their house starts getting ranked worst over and over.

Aephi is literally ranked bottom with aopii on most rankings and they don’t seem to have the same problems at all. In fact thag got a really good pc. Proved it’s not the rankings that affect it

Don't they? This is an honest question, I don't know what their house is like at all, other than seeing it ranked low on here.

I think rankings are fine. But I think it would be great to avoid labeling people "irrelevant" or "bottom tier". Things like that. Someone has to be last, but it doesn't really mean that house is bad. Terms like irrelevant make it seem bad.

it wasn't the ratings that make them bottom, it was the recruiting... ask any of the new members how uncomfortable it was
