Please explain how ranks are formed
by: QuestionGenuinely asking as a non Greek who knows female freshman about to rush. What constitutes a top house /high number? Who they socialize with? The house ?Events? GPA ? Sisterhood? Thank you

A lot has to do with image and reputation. Gpa and retention are really important for panhel. What’s rly important and what determines who has fewer rounds (like 2/3 for pref 5/8 philo 3/5 house tours) is who the pnms want and who they chose to drop during rush. Houses that 95% of people want cut over 50% after zoom. Houses that more ppl select to drop keep a much larger amount of the pnms. Sororities with bad retention and more scandals are more likely to be removed from campus. Frat relationships play a small role. Some sororities talk to mix with and are invited to parties by all frats, some only mix with “top frats” some only mix “bottom frats” but no girl is getting turned away at frat parties. The only thing that matters frat wise is mixers or parties where they give out bands but that’s happened like once.

Also a lot of houses that are popular have low retention rates bc of poor sisterhood, it’s pretty easy to figure those 2 oit

Great point about mixing with the frats - ALL girls can go to the parties and you don’t need to be Greek. I don’t know about the amount of scandals making it likely for removal as there have been some allegations this year and does not seem like a removal.
My advice - don’t get caught up in the hype and which one you perceive to be popular. Look past the “tears” you will see and go where you think you will find and maintain true easy going friendships. That is going to be different choices for different pnms.
Because this is not SEC and within a week after bid day you will realize “ranks” don’t matter
Also if finances are a concern look into the price differences, and the fines

I would agree with this at some schools but not State. Yeah,different houses might have different styles or vibes but honestly the girls in maybe 7-8 out of eleven houses all have similar looks. Pretty girls and some question marks in every one. Same with money. Some girls love to rent and burn up depop. Don’t let a TJMaxx addiction fool you. As much as some will die on the hill that their sorority is “top” that’s really not the case here. There really isn’t one. Just which vibe or style you like best. There is definitely a clear bottom group but the rest are pretty interchangeable for the most part based on what you’re looking for. No doubt some will argue this isn’t true until they can’t type anymore but it is.
