Miles College - MC Overview

  About Greek Life at MC

Miles College is a small HBCU in Fairfield, Alabama, just outside Birmingham, and its Greek system reflects exactly what you'd expect from that kind of institution — it's built around the Divine Nine. Every fraternity and sorority on campus is part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, which means if you're thinking about Greek life here, you're thinking about NPHC. There's no IFC, no Panhellenic council in the traditional sense — it's all NPHC, all the time.

The fraternities represented on campus are Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, and Phi Beta Sigma. On the sorority side, you've got Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Zeta Phi Beta. That's the full picture — every major Divine Nine organization with a presence here, which is actually a pretty complete lineup for a school this size.

NPHC recruitment works differently than the open rush you might have seen at big state schools. It's membership intake, not rush week. The process is more structured, often more selective, and typically happens on a chapter-by-chapter basis. Chapters go active and inactive in cycles, so timing matters a lot when it comes to actually joining.

At a school like Miles, Greek life carries real cultural weight. NPHC organizations have deep roots in Black college campuses going back over a century, and that history shows in how these chapters operate — community service, step shows, probates, and campus events are central to how organizations make themselves visible and build their identities. Step shows in particular tend to be some of the biggest social events on campus when they happen.

Don't expect a Greek Row with chapter houses. That's not typically how NPHC chapters operate, here or at most HBCUs. Chapters are present through their members, their events, and their visibility on campus rather than through dedicated housing.
