life as an independent at miami

by: ex pnm

I’m thinking about dropping rush because I don’t feel like myself when I talk to most of these girls and the tier thing disgusts me. I was called back to “top-tier” houses, I’m attractive, smart, and kind. Honestly, will I still have a good four years here through clubs and professional fraternities? Will I still be able to have a good network of friends and be able to date or should I just transfer? I’m far from home

What makes you not feel like yourself when you talk to them? Are you trying to tell them what you think they want to hear or something? The tier thing is terrible but honestly no one really cares in real life. Girls in bot tier houses hang out with girls and guys in top tier ones. I suggest sticking it out, being yourself, and forming your own opinions on the chapters. I know its hard blocking everyone out but if you're happier in a bot tier house, do it! no one cares about tier irl and especially not when you're chillin with your bridesmaids a few years down the line. Or when you're alum doing alum things with your alum sisters haha. The college thing is only 4 years (usually) but membership is for life. Something to keep in mind when you're both picking and thinking of dropping.

Also remember you can always drop after bid day if you're not feeling right. I'd say it's better to stick it out and see if you're happy wherever you end up (and give it a week or two after bid day because it's always a little awkward and weird right off the bat). If you're still not happy where you are, go ahead and drop.

You can definitely still have a great time at Miami without a sorority though- I'm from way out of state and am a member of both a sorority and a professional frat, and I honestly find that my professional frat has more parties and goes out more than my sorority does.
