The green yellow red GPA zones are made clear up front at registration. A high GPA is not an arbitrary qualification for membership in the selective, academic-focused sororities. Chapters are choosing their memberships and have the right to set and prioritize their qualifications. A pnm being a good fit for a chapter in values, character, personality, or other aspects is determined in person during rounds 2 and 3, but those qualifications would not make up for a GPA that is too low, so those pnm's would be released no matter what. A pnm who is not going to get a chapter's bid is owed the courtesy of being released as soon as the chapter has made that determination. Those pnm's may then focus on chapters where they are still under consideration for a bid.

Academic performance is a legitimate consideration for early cuts; however, a PNM should not be released based on factors unrelated to her qualifications, values, or character. Membership selection should have a legitimate, value-based reason behind it rather than an arbitrary factor determined before the PNM has been given a fair opportunity to participate in the recruitment process.
