Fairleigh Dickinson University, Metropolitan - FDU Overview

  About Greek Life at FDU

FDU Metro sits in Teaneck, New Jersey, just a few miles from Manhattan, and the campus has the kind of commuter-heavy feel you'd expect from a school in that setting. Greek life exists here, but it's more of a close-knit, campus-involved experience than the sprawling system you'd find at a big state school.

The fraternity and sorority community at Metro spans multiple councils. You've got IFC fraternities, Panhellenic sororities, and a solid NPHC presence with historically Black fraternities and sororities including Alpha Phi Alpha, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, Iota Phi Theta, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Zeta Phi Beta. There's also MGC representation through organizations like Lambda Theta Phi and Sigma Lambda Beta, which reflects the cultural diversity of the student body pretty well.

Rush and recruitment here are more informal compared to schools with massive Greek Row traditions. IFC and Panhellenic chapters typically hold interest events and info sessions throughout the semester rather than a drawn-out formal recruitment week. NPHC and MGC intake processes follow their own membership intake calendars, which are separate from traditional rush entirely.

Don't expect chapter houses. This is a commuter-friendly urban campus, and most chapters operate without dedicated housing. Brotherhood and sisterhood events, community service, and campus programming are how these organizations stay active and visible on campus rather than through residential chapter life.

Philanthropy is a real part of what keeps chapters engaged here. NPHC organizations in particular have a long history of community service and step show culture, and those events tend to draw attention from the broader student body. The overall Greek community is smaller and more intimate than what you'd see at a large state university, but the organizations that are active tend to be genuinely invested in what they do on campus.
