What to expect rushing a fraternity

A lot of guys get blindsided when rush actually starts, so here’s the simple version:

Rule #1: Hit the summer events
This is the easiest way to get a bid. If you don’t know anyone yet, summer events are where you meet the guys. Skip them, and you’re probably looking at a bottom house unless you already have connections from high school or know a member.

Rule #2: Play to your market
Don’t waste all your energy on a house that’s out of reach. If you’re a kid from Dallas, Sigma Chi probably isn’t taking you unless you’re a prebid from AR. Instead, check out houses like Pike or KA that pull heavy from Texas.

Rule #3: Don’t be just another guy in a dri-fit polo and beater shoes
Frats want people who bring something to the table. Be social, fun, and actually enjoyable to be around. Nobody’s looking for the quiet guy who just stands in the corner.
