rushing fraternities this fall 2020, northern kid

So I am highly considering coming to Arkansas, I’m from Michigan and I enjoyed my tour a lot. I’d really like to rush but only find things on sorority rushing and not Much recent stuff on rushing fraternities. This is a huge factor on my decision and I’m super curious on what’s up with the whole environment there because what I’ve found so far is a lot of negativity and hazing problems and stuff against out of state kids especially since I’m coming from a state that not many people there are from. Just want someone to help clear the air sorry this is long. thanks

Well hazing goes on everywhere I think. A lot depends on the frat as to what type of hazing they do. I am in a sorority and have friends in a lot of different frats. From what I have heard sleep deprivation is the worst part. Most pledges have to show up around 6 or 7 in the morning. Huge Greek life here at Uark and I think you would enjoy it! My friends and I love SAE, Kappa Sig, Pike, KA and Phi Delt!

Be aware that you may have a hard time getting into a “top” tier house due to lack of connections. It can help to go to prerush events and have a good high school GPA and involvement. We hope to see you at uark!!

There is row week which is the first week in April. The frats go all out for that! I would try and reach out to some guys in frats your interested in via Instagram or something. They can connect you with the rush chair to see if you can get an invite. It’s better if you know someone from your hometown but if you don’t then atleast try and introduce yourself soon “ish” so they can have you on their radar!

Also be careful giving away too much information on GR! There aren’t many Michigan kids so it will be easy to pick you out, could be good or bad but just be careful
