I’ve heard good things about this sorority but my experience with them when going through recruitment was not a good one. The girl I spoke to kept looking around the room and kept asking me my name multiple times after I had already told her my name (it also doesn’t help the case that I was wearing a NAME TAG). The other girl I spoke to acted desperate for me to join the chapter and honestly she was nice but the other girl just made me feel not welcome there and I ended up dropping recruitment.

They have really improved over the last two years. The previous posts are either from someone that rushed several years ago or someone trying to lower their rank. They are very active on campus and they continue to grow.

I ended up dropping rush because it got stressful. AOPi has really nice girls, though they can be a little awkward. The girls definitely love each other and fit well. But most girls have similar experiences of talking to girls who are nervous and awkward. But the ones who do join AOPi definitely find their home, seem really happy, and truly love each other.

NEW ON GREEKRANK

I went in for the first round of rush, and the first thing the girl said to me was, “If you don’t want to be here, that’s okay—you can tell me.” I had just met her three seconds ago, and she was already saying that. Then she told a story about how when she rushed, she knew she wanted to go here and just told every other sorority she was going to this one, so she was able to just chat with them during the rounds. It was a really cute story, and she said she’d be happy wherever I ended up. I don’t think she meant to come off rude, but it kind of did. I just responded that I have a very open mind and just want to find my home. After that conversation, I knew it wasn’t the right place. Then the second girl I talked to barely said anything—she was kind of just staring at the table. I’m not sure if she was nervous or just didn’t like me. I was the one keeping the conversation going and felt like I was trying to recruit her. After that round, I went to the bathroom and completely broke down because I felt like there was something wrong with me. After talking to a few girls, I learned that they all had similar experiences, where some girls there were kind of socially awkward.

They’re super friendly and fun to talk to. They do a lot of on campus events and like to include as much people as possible.

The majority of the chapter is very nice and welcoming. Of course there’s a few bad people but they are irrelevant

By: Aopi is kinda socially awkwardPosted:
I’ve seen a lot of posts about people having bad experiences with them during recruitment, and I have to say, it’s all accurate. Being there for recruitment was the most awkward and belittling experience I’ve ever had. As a recruiter, you’re trained and expected to keep the conversation going. I get that it’s difficult and there might be awkward moments where you need a minute to think of something to say. But it felt like I, as a PNM, was desperately trying to keep the conversation alive, while 99% of the girls I talked to were just looking around the room, not paying attention to anything I said. And could not hold any type of eye contact. The few times they did look at me and talk, it felt like they were begging me to join. I kept them around all the way through sisterhood because I thought it would get better and didn’t want to count anyone out but it never did. I wish I had cut them off on day one and saved myself from feeling like I wasn’t worth their time and that what I had to say didn’t matter. I would leave that room every day feeling awful because I genuinely felt like I had done something wrong for them to have zero interest in talking to me. Now I realize these girls are just socially awkward and mix well together if you’re shy and closed off. I wish they would focus on those types of girls and stop inviting everyone back, because if you’re not socially awkward, you’ll probably leave feeling stupid for giving it your all.
