Comment: I’ve seen a lot of posts about people having bad experiences with them during recruitment, and I have to say, it’s all accurate. Being there for recruitment was the most awkward and belittling experience I’ve ever had. As a recruiter, you’re trained and expected to keep the conversation going. I get that it’s difficult and there might be awkward moments where you need a minute to think of something to say. But it felt like I, as a PNM, was desperately trying to keep the conversation alive, while 99% of the girls I talked to were just looking around the room, not paying attention to anything I said. And could not hold any type of eye contact. The few times they did look at me and talk, it felt like they were begging me to join. I kept them around all the way through sisterhood because I thought it would get better and didn’t want to count anyone out but it never did. I wish I had cut them off on day one and saved myself from feeling like I wasn’t worth their time and that what I had to say didn’t matter. I would leave that room every day feeling awful because I genuinely felt like I had done something wrong for them to have zero interest in talking to me. Now I realize these girls are just socially awkward and mix well together if you’re shy and closed off. I wish they would focus on those types of girls and stop inviting everyone back, because if you’re not socially awkward, you’ll probably leave feeling stupid for giving it your all.
