Adelphi University - AU Overview

  About Greek Life at AU

Adelphi University is a mid-size private school on Long Island in Garden City, New York, and its Greek system reflects that setting pretty well — present, active, and a real part of campus social life, but not the kind of massive operation you'd find at a Big Ten flagship. The system is organized under IFC and Panhellenic councils, and there's also NPHC representation on campus, with chapters like Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta bringing that presence to Adelphi.

On the fraternity side you've got chapters like Alpha Sigma Phi, Kappa Sigma, Phi Sigma Kappa, Zeta Beta Tau, Pi Lambda Phi, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Delta Chi. Sororities include Alpha Epsilon Phi, Delta Delta Delta, Delta Gamma, Phi Sigma Sigma, Sigma Delta Tau, Delta Phi Epsilon, and Phi Mu, among others. That's a solid range of nationals represented for a school of Adelphi's size.

Recruitment at a school like this tends to be more personal than what you'd see at a huge state university. You're not walking through rows of mansions on a Greek Row during formal recruitment week — it's more about getting to know people in smaller settings, attending events on campus, and making real connections before committing. Don't expect the full Hollywood rush experience here.

Housing is worth understanding upfront. Adelphi doesn't have a traditional Greek Row with chapter houses. Most chapters operate through on-campus spaces and host events in other venues, so the fraternity and sorority experience here is more activity-based than house-based.

Philanthropy and community service are a genuine thread running through Greek life at Adelphi. Chapters participate in national philanthropy events tied to their organizations, and there's real involvement in campus-wide programming. The Greek community here interacts closely with the broader student body, which makes sense given the school's overall size and the way student life is organized on that campus.
