Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was the first black Sorority,Inc. Founded on January 15,1908. The historic network known as the Devine Nine. The national Pan-Hellenic Council We support foster& kinship via education, mentorship. Promote literacy, college readiness, career readiness. Family stabilization, youth engagement. Combat health disparities and promote preventative screenings & mental health awareness. Building financial literacy,small business growth and work force readiness. Support conservation, recycling, urban gardening & environmental justice. Arts advocacy & Cultural Awareness to the arts and highlights African culture and heritage. THE GLOBAL COMMUNITY Fosters international awareness and humanitarian aid for vulnerable populations. We wear pearls. Twenty pearls. The 9 Original founders 7 sophomores inducted early on & 4 incorporaters who officially established the historic black Greek-Letter at Howard University. Plus pearls are classy and wearing them acts as a shared bond culture
