Adding more sororities to mizzou

by: curious

Theres only 14 chapters here and 350+ ppl in some. Why not add more houses?? It makes sense to add like 2-3 more houses.

PHA would first need to be open to expansion for another national group. There was another chapter here that closed a couple years ago, Sigma Sigma Sigma, and as much as they tried to make it work, they couldn’t struggled to recruit enough women to remain active. The current number of chapters seems to be what works best and will allow all groups a better chance to stay competitive and stable.

I wish the chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta at Mizzou would reopen. AGD was on campus for over 50 years before it closed. St. Louis has a very active alum club that would be so supportive.

My daughter was AGD at Purdue. My granddaughter is a freshman at Mizzou and it would have been nice to be a legacy. As it is she doesn’t know anybody.

She wouldn't have known anybody if there was an AGD chapter here either and there is no guarantee that she would have liked her legacy chapter or they would have liked her. Legacy doesn't mean anything anymore for sorority rush.

If you haven't heard of the college 'enrollment cliff', it means that college enrollment has reached its peak this year and is about to decline with a projected 13% decrease over the next 15 years. National sororities will be extremely conservative in expansion, and may just put resources into sustaining existing chapters.

A few years back there were talks about delta zeta coming to campus. I doubt we see a new chapter after sigma closed. New chapters tend to be perceived as lower tier and then have a hard time getting established, making it a pretty risky investment.

New sororities on campus historically have not done well. SK came and went and came again and still isn't very strong. TriSig couldn't cut it, and PhiMu is struggling. PNMs have spoken and if they can't get into a great house, they often drop. That's OK. sorority life isn't for everyone.
