actual sorority rentention stats 15/16

by: Ghandi

Disclaimer, this is based on grades which some people (tridelt, SK) have made mistakes with in reporting.

In order,

KD - lost 28 girls
Phi mu - lost 24 girls
Theta - lost 19 girls
KKG - lost 14 girls
ChiO - lost 11 girls
Pi Phi - lost 12 girls
Zeta - lost 10 girls
AXO - lost 8 girls
APhi - lost 8 girls
Sigma - lost 6 girls
ADPi - lost 6 girls
GPhi - lost 6 girls

Not very consistent with what we see on these boards is it? Tell me how incredible houses like ChiO, KKG, Theta have top 5 worst rentention? Answer: because losing under 15 girls a year is totally normal and not considered bad on any campus! It doesn't mean that everyone in those houses hates it, it doesn't mean they didn't support their sisters academically, it's just natural. When you're approaching 30 girls, yes there might be a problem. But y'all who've lost 15 girls know that it isn't a cause for concern with nationals, because that doesn't qualify as poor retention.

Skipping DG was an accident I think they lost 8

These stats clearly don't show anything considering alpha phi has 13 girls in their spring pledge class which means they would has lost 13 not 8. Stats based off grades just shows how many girls grades they didn't record. Good try tho alph phi. !

There is no indication that these girls were "lost" at all. They likely are abroad, doing internships in bigger cities or student teaching. The only indicator of having to replace girls is how many new memberswere in spring pledge classes. That's a much different story, isn't it?

By: Hmmm....
by: No

lol no spring rush is optional to anyone under 300 girls, over half the houses were under total and could've spring rushed

The reason they didn't, however, is that most of those houses didn't really lose those girls. They were just temporarily not in Columbia. The proof will be in fall rush when they don't have to take extra-large pledge classes to make quota.

XO and Theta always take massive PCs that's how you don't realize they lose girls lol

I haven't done an internship or studied abroad yet, but hope to. Don't you get credits for that, so there are grades? why wouldn't you report those grades even if it is less than a full schedule of credits?

The only grades that count are from this institution. Most study abroad grades are pass/fail and they are from a different school, therefore they don't count.

Theta does not have 20 girls abroad, the fact is that those retention rates aren't even bad! Only phi mu and kd had rough years.

Spring rush is NOT optional for a lot of sororities. Like DG, if they are under chapter total their nationals requires them to COB no matter what... which is usually why they have cobbed in past years even if it's just one girl. These stats are obviously not an indiction of how many girls were "lost" because if that was the case DG would have been forced to cob this year. While yes some of those numbers might have been "lost" girls, a lot of them were probably grades they didnt record, girls who studied abroad, or graduated. Like another poster had said the only way to for sure know a sorority was under is if they cob. There's nothing wrong with cobbing tho so idk why people are acting like there is

Sororities don't report members that study abroad, go inactive for a semester for family reasons, student teach or take a semester to intern. They "suspend" their membership for the semester and allow them to come back after, thus the sudden drop in number. But yes, most houses do lose a few girls throughout the year.

I'm a KD. We lost several girls to transferring, some upperclassmen studying abroad, and only about 30 seniors stayed fully active. Sooooo yeah

by: Yep

So A.K.A these numbers mean nothing. If gphi had 20+ girls drop their nationals with out a doubt would have made them COB... Just like any other nationals would and their nationals would probably be SUPER pissed at them too and it would have been a huge deal. Like many people have said before there are LOTs of reasons these numbers are the way they are and it likely has nothing to do with "losing" girls meaning girls dropping

Our national would NOT let us COB. Our numbers were high and there was no need for us to COB, but if our numbers ever dipped it wouldn't matter. COBing is just not something we do. It's a matter of pride, I guess.

After what happened last Fall on the Mizzou campus - there were many students (and/or their parents) who decided to transfer to other schools - so you need to take that into consideration.
