grades and rush

by: nervous!

I haven't had a very good high school experience. I went through a lot with family and let my grades slip as a result. I'm going to mizzou and am so ready for a fresh start with new experiences and sisters, but my grades were awful in high school. I got a 2.5 and am so embarrassed to say that. I know that I have the potential to do better. I got a 27 on my act without studying, and if the sororities would give me a chance to explain why my grades were less than superb I'm sure that I would be okay. I just don't want my grades to limit where I will be able to rush. I feel so anxious and do have some connections and recommendation letters, but I know that won't help with my grades. I just need some advice on if there's anything I can do to better my chances of getting into a sorority that I feel fits me best.'

You would be a real grade risk and many houses wouldn't be enthusiastic about taking someone who let their grades slip like that, no matter what the circumstances. And a 27 ACT isn't that great either. Good luck to you, but perhaps you should wait a year and rush as a sophomore when you have been able to prove that you areserious about academics.

it will likely depend on what the circumstances are + to show the fact that you've grown from it is really important. I can name 3 people who's immediate family members passed away during college and we all maintained our 3.8+ GPAs - but you're a much more mature person at 18 than at 14 so if you're able to show growth and dedication to studies.. Maybe waiting a year and kicking ass as a freshman would help

My mid tier house cuts grades under 3.0 first round unless they're a legacy. Sadly, all we will see is your name and GPA and cut you before you get a chance to even step in the door. Not being mean, just going an honest answer to your question.

Go rush. Meet as many people as you can. Make connections. Raise your GPA. Good luck as a sophomore.
