So basically the machine is there to have power over the campus politics to supposedly protect greek life? And greeks go along with the machine choices because it gives their chapter more prestige aka more swaps and parties?

Machine is for campus politics and elections. It really doesn't have that much to do with status, swaps or parties.

Just read that agd thread. Boys in old row frats run the machine. They threaten the sororities with social exclusion to get them to vote the way they are told. Those that get the vote out are rewarded with chick prizes like homecoming awards and other trinkets.
