is there ever peace?
by: OosI'm from the Midwest and I'm considering going to Bama next year and I really want to join a sorority but by reading through the posts here I am questioning if it's worth it! It seems like the rank of your sorority is really important and that the sororities never get along? Is that true? I just want to find my sisters and not have to worry about drama!!!

Truth be told, things have gotten much better at bama. In the past, girls would rather not be in a sorority than be in certain houses (and it's still like this at schools like Texas in a big way). Now, those girls still exist, but now the vast majority of girls are willing to give any house a shot. Think of it this way- no matter what house you get in, make it a point to be kind to anyone regardless of what sorority they're in. (Sounds like common sense but you'd be surprised).

You guys are awful. @op-that was satire, and while well written, it did not answer your question. Most of the drama is concentrated here since it is an anonymous message board. In real life, you're surrounded by your sisters, and hopefully too busy doing college to be catty. It is what you make it, and that's true everywhere. Good luck!

I'm going to be honest in saying that there is very little Panhellenic love between the sororities here. Most people will ask what sorority you are in as a means of deciding whether or not to befriend you. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed my time here, but good people are in the minority. Nobody is even willing to visit other sororities' philanthropy events. It's a joke.
Best advice I can give is: Rush your Junior year and stay in until you graduate, so you can still have access to the alumnae network post-grad. Most people burn out after 2 years, so you might as well benefit from the crap you'll have to put up with.

hey girl! Im from the Midwest too and thought that rankings meant everything initially. It's just not true. I did not end up with the houses I thought I fit in with best but after a couple of weeks of being a new member I realized it was the perfect fit. The rankings aren't that prominent or noticeable unless you are on this website all the time. You will find a friend group in any sorority you join and you're able to avoid drama as long as you stay out of it. Unfortunately, there is drama in every sorority and you aren't going to find a group of 400 girls who all get along perfectly. But it is what you make of it, no matter what sorority you join! So go in with an open mind, trust me that every sorority here is fun and amazing and you'll make great friends if you try to make solid relationships with your sisters.

Many won't pledge juniors unless they already know you.
Anonymity breeds crap.
Sorority is like anything else - you get out what you put in. That said, it becomes a little less important by the time you're a junior. You begin to see the big picture again. And your studies crank up so you spend more time doing that.
