"hazing"

by: Guest

What is typical sorority hazing like? No need to be specific or say specific houses but just generally what are the activities? (Ex: I've heard about small things like funneling beer?)

There's really no hazing in any of the sororities. That being said, older girls might ask you to funnel beer (just using your example, I personally haven't seen that one) or do any number of other silly/"fun" tasks. But if it's something you're not comfortable with, just speak up! No one will ever make you do anything - there are so many sweet girls that don't drink, and we honestly just want all the new members to enjoy themselves.

I've also heard that new members have to memorize the names of everyone in their pledge class, their major, and their hometown. Isn't this a form of hazing too because only NMs have to do it?

check yourself @isthishazing
stop calling everything "hazing"
learning the names and information of your sisters of the sorority that YOU CHOSE to join is not "hazing." Every NM class has to do it. It's important to know your pledge class. God this is why I hate all of this sensitive crap going on. Don't join a sorority if you don't want to learn about your sisters.

Why would you consider learning about your sisters hazing? Don't you know this information about your own sisters/family? If you join a sorority it should be for the sisterhood, and you wouldn't be a good sister if you didn't even know the bare, basic facts about your new family.

You all are so incredibly rude. You could choose to be helpful and carefully explain, but you chose to be snarky instead. She's a PNM and probably has no clue what's going on.

For commenter #2, to answer your question, technically, yes this is hazing because only New Members need to do it and it's a "barrier" to entry. However, it's really not that bad because you'll be studying with your pledge class. And I'm sure this is something that no one cares to report. My sorority doesn't test us on this info, but I think AXO does. Honestly, it's difficult to remember hometowns and majors of 140+ girls in your PC, but learning the names of the girls in your PC won't be hugely difficult because hopefully your sorority will have fun sisterhood events and you'll be spending a lot of time with everybody!

Don't worry yourself with these rude posters above me. I doubt if you took any random sorority girl off the street, she would be able to recite the names, majors, and hometowns of all her pledge sisters. We're all a lot more helpful than this site makes us seem.

My sorority has a strict no hazing policy. Like we actually don't haze AT ALL. Some houses haze a bit. Nothing too crazy though.

Tie up our pledges and blindfold them and pretend we were going to leave them in the bush lol make our pledges say the Greek alphabet forwards and backwards before a candle burns out... Play lots of loud creepy dubstep. Nothing too crazy

If by hazing, you mean being told to go to swaps to meet with drunk guys who awkwardly try to put moves on you all night, then yes.
