phi mu outs machine

by: thoughts

What do you think the consequence will be? She basically outed some of their practices, where they have meetings, and how it works. Don't think they'll like that too much.

GO HER I'm sure they won't like it but I don't know how much phi mu will suffer because it was a very individual thing and there are still a lot of phi mus in support of the machine. Power to her what an awesome brave thing

The last to go against the machine was a Chi Omega, who then transferred schools. I understand it takes courage to stand up for what is right, but it is crazy that this so called "machine" has that big of an impact on peoples lives..

Living in that fear is what they want though. For people to be scared to go against them. The more people who do and stand their ground and don't back down, the weaker they'll become. While it may have a bad impact on her specifically, I think she can stick it out and either way she's doing a whole lot of good for bama's future

I think this 'Machine' talk is comical. Their approach to assert influence is no different than what political parties do everyday at local and national levels. Tow the party line or there will be consequences. I get it, young people are idealistic and are trying to create change but lets not act like 'the machine' is some kind of demonic organization.

'Machine'...you tools crack me up. Give yourselves a break, would ya? Has anyone in 'the machine' ever gotten a mortgage? A real job? Birthed a child? or better yet, raised one? You little goobers might be in a super duper secret clubbie-poo, but you're no machine.

You nailed it. This group is no different than any other organized group.The houses that agreed to be part of this group are no different than any other organization. They're created to sway opinions, be heard, or create influence through numbers. Think lobbyist, PAC's, etc. So who cares if they're doing the same. There are many groups on campus that attempt to come together in numbers to be heard or sway opinions.

machine = organized crime.

To move unto the 21st century, it's going to take all of us working together, not just relying on a Chi O here and a Phi Mu there.

She has guts, unlike the gutless AGDs. The machine just a bunch of rednecks who want things to stay the same forever and ever. Life changes, deal with it. the school is changing with the big group of OOS students coming in. Love Bama but it needs to let go of some past relics like the machine if we want this to be a world class university.

Isn't really new -- Mary Margaret Carroll (XO) did pretty much the same thing 10 years ago when she was SGA president.

Wonder if Phi Mu will protect her from retribution or whether Phi Mu will itself be "banished" in some way, shape or form because of this.

I hope both AGD and Phi Mu get some backbone and that the other houses also get some backbone. This generation of Machine leadership is very aggressive. I sure hope a greek non-machine cadidate for SGA president emerges. Even better, I hope this person is a minority from OOS.
