how does cob work?
by: AeeHow exactly does COB work? I know the basic, you get invited to events and the house decides if they want you, thing. But am wondering about specifics. When/how are you notified of which groups are participating in COB? And will a group contact you directly if interested? How long does it typically take for them to contact you, and are most people even contacted? Do you need letters of rec for COB? Thanks!

Ok, so there won't be a list of which houses are participating because COB/Spring at Bama is very low key and done very discreetly, for the most part. You should complete the form and submit it to Panhel-you can do that now or closer to Christmas break, like one mentioned. Houses that are under total by just a few will probably fill those spots by giving bids to good friends of sisters already in the house (This is why networking is very important! Make meaningful friendships with sorority women in your classes, dorm, activities etc and show them what a great asset you'd be to their chapter!). Houses that have more spots available will look at the list of interested women given to them by Panhel, and then decide who they want to contact to invite to events. You will probably be contacted by email. Don't get discouraged if you're not contacted right away; it might be mid or late January. In the meantime, make as many friends in sororities as you can, keep your grades up, stay involved on campus, and yes, rec letters can be helpful with Spring if you can get an idea of who will be participating. Please keep an open mind to ALL chapters because all 16 have something to offer! Good luck!

Also, she was contacted directly by the houses. There wasn't a list or anything of which houses were participating. Not sure about letters but I don't imagine it would hurt to have them.
