The fact that the Machine determines things like SGA positions, other elected or studen selected leadership slots should not color your impressions of the relative quality of the different sorority chapters. All of that can create a illusion of high quality that is not necessarily consistent with the experience offered by the houses. That is, a house that has a bunch of machine-driven achievements may not necessarily be the best house for you. This is not to suggest that houses backed by the machine and who are very connected with the machine (which is all the old row and a majority of new row) are not each great. They all are. But they are definately all unique in their cultures and house "personality." So -- dear PNMs -- you have to focus on chemistry and whether you really truly fit with the girls in a house. You can only learn this through personal relationships and your own experience during the recruitment process. You have to filter out all the noise and listen to your heart when the time comes. I know too many girls that ranked houses based on the wrong things and then ended up very home sick, unhappy at first -- and took a while to learn how to be satisfied with their choice (if they got happy). I know too few girls that ranked houses without being influenced by factors that, at the end of the day, really did not matter for them. All the houses are good, but what is best for you will depend on you - as an individual.
