fall rush 2016
by: Future UA studentI'm a senior in high school in the northeast and applying for colleges this year. I already know that I want a big university and UA is my first choice. I'd also like to rush in 2016. However, I'm somewhat overwhelmed by the process - recs, social resumes, preview day, etc. It's very different what I know about greek life and rush. My sister is a Pi Phi in the northeast, but it's a small liberal arts college, where the rush experience seems VERY different. There were no recs required, no social resumes, etc. When I asked her about it she said that she just registered and rushed. Any tips on how to get started? I mean, I don't even know what a social resume looks like. I would literally be starting from practically square 1. TIA!

I'm so happy you've decided to rush!!! you won't find a better experience anywhere else, although the process is overwhelming it's all with it!! I can't stress enough how amazing it's been and I'm only a freshman! so, my biggest piece of advice is to start early. don't wait to get recs until the late spring before they're due. go ahead and start thinking of women you can ask -- friends of your mom, your friend's mom, and you can also at Alabama ask girls for recs that are currently in a sorority (AT OTHER SCHOOLS) another tip that helped me out so much was to socialize with the current actives. we love it!! now, don't be clingy or try too hard but when you get accepted start posting on the Alabama group Facebook page, we notice who is rushing! and more than likely will reach out. also, don't be a friend to send friend request / Insta follows!! with there being close to 3000 girls you have to make yourself stand out!
all in all, IT WILL WORK OUT. it always works out.

Thank you so much! Speaking of facebook, snapchat, insta - I actually keep my social media pretty private. I don't accept friends or follow requests I don't personally know. I have a friend who had a scary experience, and so now all of us are really careful. But it seems like its an important way to network? Is it absolutely necessary, especially if you're like me and don't really have any set connections yet?
