spring transfer rushing

I'm a sophomore transferring from a school without Greek life this spring to Bama. What are my chances for a spring bid?

Well, first of all it depends on whether chapters decide to participate in Spring Recruitment. Some needing to fill just a few spots may just pick up a few girls that are already friends with sisters in the chapter, and some who lost more girls to early graduation, transferring, dropping out of school and/or the sorority, etc will likely participate in an "actual" Spring Recruitment. Some chapters won't particpate at all. Also, what school are you transferring from? Is it in the South? Do you have a strong GPA and lots of involvement in campus? Do you do volunteer work? Are you cute with a polished appearance? Are you a good conversationalist? And most importantly...can you get recs to all/most chapters? (Since you don't know who's doing Spring and who's not, I would try to get as many recs as possible). These things will help determine your chances of getting a bid-either this Spring or next Fall. Good luck!

I have a great GPA. I volunteer in a hospital two days a week and my church's various events (working with the homeless and fundraising events) Definitely have a polished appearance and I like to thing I'm good looking (Idk how to phrase that without seeming self centered/narcissistic). I'm a conversationalist for sure-meeting new people and talking to them is one of my favorite things. I don't want to say where I'm transferring from for privacy reasons! My fear is I transfer, not get a spring bid and then having to Spring rush as a Junior. I know it is possible to not be greek and enjoy Bama regardless; however, I would to have the family and support that comes with a Sorority.

Transferring from another SEC school that doesn't have a nursing program. Never was interested in the Greek scene here. Should I try and join a sorority here before transferring? Or just wait to find a home at Alabama? I never joined because I didn't see a reason to. Now that I'm leaving my friends and comfort zone, I'm afraid of leaving and not knowing anyone where i'm going or having a support group.

Are you a freshman or a sophomore right now? Sophomores can and do find homes during Formal Recruitment, but they usually have lots of friends in houses and are amazing in person and on paper. Juniors usually have a very, very difficult time. When do you plan on transferring to Bama (this spring or next fall)? If you are at another SEC school, recruitment will likely be very competitive there as well, and it will require a lot of preparation when you aren't even planning on staying at that school-what if you get a bid to a chapter, transfer to Bama, (try to/do) affiliate, and then find out the chapter at Bama is nothing like the chapter you joined at your previous (well right now, current) school? I think, if you really want to get the most out of your potential sorority experience, that it would be best to wait until you transfer to UA before going through recruitment. Best of luck! Let us know if you have more questions! :)
