sororities

by: PNM 2016

I plan on attending Alabama in the fall of 2016. I am from out of state so I have read all of the posts during and after this year's rush. What I have learned is that I could care less about old row versus new row, how long the sorority has been there, or being in a house with a bunch of girls from the same small town high school. I would like advice from the out of state actives on sororities with a larger out of state, big city girl membership. I do understand that I should go with my heart and where I feel I fit in.

Recent grad from oops here. was a kd. If you want to avoid watching a bunch of Alabama school girls self congratulate themselves for keeping the clique going, stay away from all old row except kd and phi mu. Pretty much all new row is better for Oos that want to be really integrate Zeta has a lot of big city Florida Texas and Cali girls and they seem tight and fun. They annoy old row be they are hot and fun and don't care what old row says. Pi phi also is very diverse and fun. Dg and dz is diverse and fun but not as much. A phi, despite a lot of hate from old row, is good too.

Agree with everything except A Phi. They are not good. They have a horrible sisterhood (they lose a lot of girls each year) and are not respected on campus.

There are plenty of out of state girls in old row. About half and half. And I would say KD is the WORST about "keeping the clique going" so you really don't know what you're talking about

Any of the new row happily want and accept oos girls. Stay away from old row unless you want to feel left out. They're all cliquey and from the same Al hometowns. You could go ZTA, but they can be snooty and are partiers. PiPhi, AOPi, ADPi are great ones, sweet girls, very diverse. DZ and APhi are ok,, but a little wild.

a friend who became a member of an "old row" (such a stupid term) sorority. She has told me that she and many of her Oos sisters are really treated like outsiders from the in-state, same hometown high school girls. She said it is like junior high school revisited! My advise is to do your research before the Fall Rush!

Aphi has fun... But never makes you feel uncomfortable. I put aphi #1 after pref and didn't get them but my roomie is an aphi and she talks about how there are girls who go out all the time and girls who don't go out at all. Everyone is going to have something to say about any other house. Who cares. Go where you're happy and with an open mind. You don't need to listen to any of this because someone will always be jealous of the other.

I found A Phi to be very unpanhellenic and very unacademic. We go to school to learn, not to just party. I dropped out when I just had them and Theta. Then I went through my sophomore year and got a great house.
