summer camps

by: PNMUA23

Are there some summer camps (whatever state or location) that are known and create "connections" among actives and pnms -- that when an active sees it on a resume they immediately sort of know (or get some sort of presumptive idea) what sort of pnm they are looking at? What are those camp names? Are they just in the south or are camps in places like Michigan and California and Texas known to the UA houses?

Also

Camp Mac
JHRanch

Actives know and respect those. Certain social status in those.

Note that many actives end up working at some of these during summer as counselors.

And I have seen it come up in defense of a pnm.

Please give up already. You going to a freaking camp isn't going to make you have a better or worse recruitment.

Camps teach girls a sense of togetherness and sisterhood... they are very important. A lot of well to do camps even teach manners and how to act in social situations.

You get a lot of connections with girls from other high schools from camp, and attending camp is like its own mini-sorority. At my camp they separate you into different tribes and you compete with your tribe and live with them. You learn how to live in your own and learn how to deal with being around a ton of other girls, solving your problems, and learn how to navigate around situations with grace. Also at my camp they taught etiquette, but that may not be every camp. It's a way of bringing well-connected girls in the state together.

I like the question because the responses provide some insight to social dynamics both during recruitment, the results of recruitment and life in a house post recruitment. bonds made at camps can be strong and create links and connections. girls that are from different towns but went to camp together or worked at comp together tend to find each other in greek life. to ignore the camp stuff is to disregard something that is a part of the puzzle.

PS (Atlanta girls).

Camp Merrie-Woode
