Adding Sororities to UA
by: curious
Hey guys, I go to school in the north at a relatively big greek life school and just wondering the following.
Why wouldn't UA add more chapters? I feel like having 400+ people sororities is just too many to get close to girls in ur house. If they added 3-4 more houses it could dilute this and make for better environments in each chapter and more intimate.
Also I'm confused about Sigma Kappa. They have a house but its not a mansion like everyone else? Why? Will they get a mansion too? do they always hit quota or are their numbers struggling and they will have to disband soon?
Thanks! :)

Regarding SK, they are in a "swing house" since they arrived in 2018. They had plans for a mansion, but there was a contract dispute between SK Nationals and UA. Costs went up after the pandemic and Nationals is pulling back. Plus they want the chapter to gain more members, but it's hard to gain members without a house. So a catch 22. I hope it gets worked out. Those girls have been told since day 1 that a mansion will be built but here we are. They deserve a big house.

There are only 8 NPC sororities left that don't have a chapter here, most of which are very small, so only a couple of would maybe be able to make it work at Bama. You have to have a lot of money to build competitive housing to even be in the mix here. And you have to have a good local alumnae group to help rush and advise. Alpha Xi Delta has tried and failed here twice and weren't interested in trying again the last time expansion came up; they would be the obvious sorority large enough to have the resources.

Like everyone said, it’s all about the house. If /when SK gets their mansion, maybe a chapter could move into the swing house but IDK if there if any interest, because then the pressure will be on to get a mansion, and, all other things being equal, the huge beautiful sorority house is huge pull for PNMs
