Honest Info needed Re: drinking
by: Need to knowAre there any houses where freshman drinking is NOT the norm or where people accept you if you don’t? I’m very social but don’t want to be made to feel bad if I don’t drink.
#3 by: It depends
I'm in a house that is typically considered mid- lower mid and not a "party house". There was some pressure to drink on bid night and really all of fall semester. I don't drink for many reasons (dad is an alcoholic, sister in and out of rehab, I'm an extreme light weight) and can only think of twice where someone said something rude about it. I have a really good group of friends who don't/rarely drink. I try to be there for younger girls like me :)

There is no house with no drinking, but here's what I have learned. Don't explain or make excuses because that just encourages more argument. You can say "no thanks I'm good" with a smile on your face and show that you are having fun with everyone, and stand your ground with that. Keep your message (whatever it is) simple and consistant, and yourself poised and happy. Don't come off as judgey toward the others, don't act uncomfortable or unsure. Just be consistant but sweet. The offers and encouragement to drink will keep on coming but the less you say the less they can say back and when you don't get upset about it you have won. Nobody is going to hold you down and pour it down your throat. The chapter is not going to kick you out or ostrasize and alienate you. Truth be told, some girls will not like it but that's their problem. And some girls will love you and respect you for it. You will find your true friends in the sorority.

Agd will have you with a gallon of alcohol your first night. Don’t join if you’re not okay drinking
