Alpha Phi preying on pledges to profit
by: NikkiIs anyone else experiencing this? Alpha Phi exec board does not enforce their "live-in" requirement to members and in order to "fill beds" they mislead pledges to sign the Housing Agreement. It is a scam because pledges don't know where they want to live after only a few weeks. Plus, they sign a $15K agreement and commit to living in just to please the exec board. Shady. If you don't pay....they send you to collections!

If APhi could actually retain members they wouldn't have to stoop to this kind of entrapment. They know that second years won't drop if they're stuck with a housing contract. If they waited to force a housing contract in the spring, those freshmen, having experienced life in APhi, would be just as happy to drop than be forced to live in, so they have to get them early in order to fill the house. If APhi continues to recruit based on superficial qualities instead of real substance then they are always going to have a membership/sisterhood/retention problem.

I’m rushing next fall. Did this really happen, that new members felt pressured by exec to sign something?
I don’t think it’s as simple as “read the contract and then don’t sign it if you don’t like it.” If it was soon after being offered a bid, I can see feeling very uncomfortable standing up to long time members when I’ve just been in a few weeks.
This doesn’t feel like sisterly behavior to me, so if this is true, I really appreciate the person who posted it.
