Best Advice for high school seniors

by: High School Senior

Hi I’m a high school senior hoping to be at Bama next fall and interested in Rushing. I’m out of state, 4.0 gpa and lots of involvement so I don’t think I’ll be hurt for grade cuts at least. I understand letters of rec are important. Wondering if anyone has advice on if it is important for me to visit campus and try to connect to actives before spring- since I am not from Alabama? Any other advice for what might help me connect more to sorority actives before we aren’t allowed to talk- was told that happens in the spring. I understand the costs involved and should be okay because it looks like I’ll be able to get scholarships here. Thanks for any advice!

You can't really make the connections to actives the way you are talking about. Connections that matter are long-standing; same home town, same high school or camp or church, extended family, family friend, etc. Just meeting some actives for the first time isn't going to make you connected. Connected girls have been known and known about for years.

What @Sorry says is true. Nothing rude about it, they speak the truth. The words 'connect' and 'connections' means a whole thing as far as sororities go Just meeting actives briefly on a visit before rush is not really connecting and not going to help you. Too bad you don't want to hear that. Besides, how do you think you would meet any sorority actives here on a visit?

Remember, sorority and Greek life is only part of your college experience. Most students here are not affiliated anyway. I thought being out of state it was going to be rough, but most students are out of state actually sorority or not! Visit campus to make sure this is the right campus, but don’t worry about Greek life too much other than getting letters of recommendation, and what to wear, but all the trolls on here are making it way too big of deal and scaring people. It’s all going to work out. Enjoy your senior year!

Some of us do, when we are writing on anonymous boards and trying to be polite. Did I mention I had a 4.0? Also I’m not from the South. Sorry my language bothers you so much. I got what I needed so I’m happy. Thank you.

You should try connecting to anyone you know from home who goes here. You need to visit campus to know if it’s the right fit. Do the tours, talk to who you know from home. Doesn’t matter if they’re Greek.

A 4.0 ain't nothin.' You need a 4.5 or 4.6 to really stand out. Just 4.0 is kinda average.

Girl thinks she can come here and somehow "connect" with actives on campus she has never met, like she's going to rush before rush and get some kind of advantage. The reality of rush here is going to be tough for her, having never been told "no" and calling people rude for an honest answer. Sorority actives do not gaf about random high school seniors unless they already know them or know of them.

Hellllllloooooo media!!! Why are you even trying to posture this as real? we all know you are not a senior..you are just fishing for an answer about how relevant connections are. Bye now!! This is troll central. also, it IS a college. no-one is making serious connections on a college tour.
