What is SDT’s reputation around campus?

They’re not really known. Panhellenic gets mad that their NPC but don’t participate in formal recruitment. It’s a small house with maybe 50 girls and the PC is like 5 girls.

The logistically can’t. There are so many girls that go through rush that each active you have to approximately 50 PNMs each during every round. Plus add to the fact the closest SDT chapter is at Emory in Atlanta, it’s just hard for SDT to bring actives from other colleges to help with their Rush here in Tuscaloosa.

SDT is very inclusive to all girls though!

Yes. When you have 50 members, you simply can't handl a recritment of 2500 visiting your tiny house.
SDT has great girls and tight friendships.
They have formals and swaps with fraternities.
They have philanthropic and sisterhood events.
They are an NPC sorority.
Do check them out when they have their rush events, probably in the next week or two.

Panhel keeps trying to get them to join formal rush (because we are running out of sororities that could colonize here) but their nationals keep digging their heels in.

Their national would prefer that they did formal recruitment, but they recognize that the chapter is at a disadvantage on this campus. They've tried doing formal before, but PNMs were awful to them and got on GreekRank to complain that they were "messing up quota." Most PNMs chose to drop out of recruitment or turn down their bid if they only had SDT left.

National could close the chapter or make the actives go alum and start from scratch, but it would be a PR disaster, not to mention it would be an uphill battle to persuade PNMs to join. Letting them do their own thing is the best option.

They don’t do formal since they don’t have enough actives to rush pnms. They have a house though and are a great choice if you’re looking for a more low key and affordable option

other than the fact that they are super small, I havent heard bad things. a girl in my class absolutely loves them.

If you want the full Greek life experience, you should try to COB or spring rush/COB next semester. SDT is great and tight knit and if that’s your vibe you’ll love it, but if you are wanting a replacement for the other sororities it’s just not the same. I think most of their members don’t do formal recruitment and go straight to SDT.

💯 sorry to say but they are not the same. Look out for COB this fall and spring if you want a more typical sorority experience.
