Wow, this description of OR/NR is so wrong. Before 1950's all the FRATERNITY houses were on University and Marrs Spring road near the stadium, minus SAE and KA which were on the east side of University. The University made available the opportunity for Fraternities to move and build bigger houses on Jefferson. The houses that remained on University had much smaller physical houses but were designated Old Row and every house that moved to Jefferson was named new row. Noticed I did not mention any sororities as old row and new row is it is a fraternity thing. It wasn't until the early 80's that the old row fraternities banded together to throw an old row party at the start of fall involving the houses that stayed on University in their original houses from day 1, those being SNU, Phi Gam, Phi Delt, DKE, SAE and KA. How sororities got involved is those Fraternities invited certain sororities to be part of the party. Originally those sororities were AGD, DDD, KD, Chi-O and KKG. Phi Mu was add in the later years.
Just look in map archives for the university development you will see designations of Jefferson being described as new row which meant that university was considered old row. Most of the houses on university pre-1950's barely had bedroom space for about 20 members so the new row houses took advantage to build bigger houses on Jefferson to house more brothers and infrastructurally support larger chapters.
