An actual seniors thoughts
by: Senioritis
Yes, there is some validity to what gets said on greekrank. Yes, there are houses that are considered more prestigious than others. Yes, old row will mean something to a lot of people in sororities and fraternities.
That said, as a pnm, I thought that the house I ended up in would define not only my college experience, but how others thought of me. I thought that just some houses were ranked consistently below others on here, that I should avoid them because it would be embarrassing to have to be in a less prestigious house. That everyone would think that I just wasn’t good enough to get a coveted bid from old row. As a senior, I can tell you that after your freshman year, no one, including the actives, cares.
I got the house I wanted. And as a senior in that house I can tell you that no one on campus is really paying attention or judging you based on the letters that you’re wearing. This site can provide insight into what sorts of things these houses value. But in terms of prestige, you can ask people on campus and most won’t know or care what each house means besides those in Greek life. And there will almost certainly be girls in any sorority who will be interested in the same things as you.
I’m not gonna pretend the rankings on here mean nothing or aren’t accurate to people who still care about prestige or selectiveness of a house. But I will tell you that as you get older, rankings of any kind, accurate or not, become mostly irrelevant.

Can confirm. I have good friends in different sororities than mine and have more in common and feel more comfortable with them than with many of my sisters. We don't care about letters and you might be surprised the mix of different sororities in our friend group. And while there are definitely some sisters from my new member class three years ago that I genuinely love and have been very close with along with some older ones who have since moved on, most of my sisters I feel okay to fine with and some I really dislike. That is the experience of every single girl in other sororities I have talked with. I think freshmen still have an immature high school mindset and so the superficial stuff is more important to them until they learn what's actually real on campus.
