just a little rant!

so i’m just wondering why our high school gpa matters when we rush and want a bid. ur telling me i could be the sweetest girl, attractive and just very involved and outgoing but i would get dropped by every house because i have a 2.9 gpa? tbh that’s dumb because people are way more than a number based off of test scores.

honestly completely agree, i messed around freshmen and sophomore year so i was 14 and 15... junior year and senior year i made honor roll and my gpa is a 4.2 from those two grades. I think its really dumb

College has a lot more freedoms and temptations than what you have in high school. Sorority life is a huge time commitment it’s not like a club that meets once or twice a week. Chapters need girls who can manage their time and have the discipline to go to class, hit the books, and still have time to participate in Greek life. They don’t want to have to worry about girls dropping out or transferring bc they couldn’t keep their grades up. The only way they have to gauge this ability is through your high school gpa. If you “messed around” and couldn’t get decent grades in high school, despite having a much more structured lifestyle, how do they know you’re not going to do the same thing when you get to college ?

The part about GPA that annoys me is that it puts people from prep schools (especially OOR prep schools) at a disadvantage. My prep school actually doesn’t even have GPAs or ranks and we grade really harshly but our average standardized test scores are through the roof. I want to go to Alabama because it seems fun but I’m worried I’ll regret it because of my high school “GPA” so I’m considering picking a different college based on all these posts.

You need to go to a school near home or a small school. All SEC schools are the same on this

It is much harder to keep a good gpa in college. If you didn’t in high school, you most likely won’t in college. Sororities have to have members in good standing that don’t hurt their house gpa. Like there’s no way around it. Kind of sucks but there is definitely a reason
