gpa question!!!

by: Curious

How many houses would someone with a 3.2 gpa be likely to get back? Is that a good enough gpa to rush? I don’t know a lot about rushing.

With a 3.2 gpa for philanthropy you could expect to get back 8 houses at the very, very maximum. typically I would say 2-6 is much more common. Unfortunately, no matter your circumstances, a 3.2 gpa is not considered a good gpa to rush, no matter what super hardcore private school you went to or whether you had personal issues unless you work very hard to make these personal issues well known to all houses and have connections.

Why does Panhellenic suggest a 3.2 in their “green zone” if it’s that bad? It just seems super misleading

Panhellenic cannot require a GPA to participate in recruitment, but individual chapters can. Some chapters only require a 3.0 to keep someone, other chapters require a 3.4 to keep someone. The 3.2 is a recommendation and it’s the bare minimum. Anything below this increases the chance of being completely released by every house exponentially. Having just a 3.2 is not enough. These spots are usually reserved for girls who have in house connections. The past few years the gpa of pnms who got a bid was above a 3.8, so it’s increasingly competitive every year. The most likely reason 3.2 is considered green zone is because this likely meets almost all national requirements of chapters to give someone a bid, but it doesn’t guarantee a girl will have a good rush especially as competitive as UAs rush is.

So should I not rush then?

no, i say give it a shot because the worst thing that happens is you don’t get a bid, and you could always try again

And tbh most of the houses are even less likely to accept if you have those personal issues bc unfortunately rush is a shallow process

I'm in the same boat. I think it's unfair bc the hs I went to was SO hard (private, all-girls) OOS. The academics there is in no way comparable to a lot of public schools ppl are coming from. Would high SAT/ACT's help or does that not make a difference?

Boohoo. Honestly go somewhere else. High test scores don’t mean anything
